Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition: The Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition, an alliance of individuals and organizations seeking to improve the overall health of families in Georgia by working collaboratively to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, is pleased to welcome Claire Eden, BA, IBCLC, RLC.  Claire will serve as the Coalition Coordinator in a part-time capacity based at the Georgia Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics office in Atlanta.  Claire will work with GBC President Mary Nicholson Jackson to establish a coalition steering committee to strategize Coalition projects and goals and nominate a slate of officers to be elected at the June 6, 2012 general meeting.  She will publish a quarterly GBC newsletter to update members and stakeholders on coalition activities, meetings, research and news.  She will also help the existing local coalitions recruit members and strengthen their impact as well as help form new coalitions in communities across Georgia.

Claire has been supporting breastfeeding families since 1998 through La Leche League International and as a board certified lactation consultant since 2009.

Born in the Midwest, Claire grew up in Gainesville, Florida and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications.  Before becoming a lactation consultant, Claire worked in health administration.   She has enjoyed putting down roots in Georgia over the last decade through volunteer work and community involvement.  She serves on several public health work groups promoting breastfeeding support and education and as a trainer with the EPIC Breastfeeding Program.  She is a member of the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA), the United States Lactation Consultants Association (USLCA), and the Southeast Lactation Consultant Association (SELCA).  She is also a Lactation Consultant in private practice and is a principal of Atlanta Breastfeeding Consultants, LLC. Claire enjoys many interests including reading, antiques, blogging and sewing.  She and her husband Carlton are the parents of three school-aged daughters.

Breastfeeding Handout: The Georgia Physician Breastfeeding Advisory Committee (PBAC) is a collaborative effort among Family Physicians, OB/GYNs, Pediatricians, and lactation experts to promote breastfeeding in the state.  We have developed a patient handout, which you are encouraged to copy and distribute, to assist our patients in initiating breastfeeding successfully and continuing to nurse for a significant time period. You can access the handout by visiting: http://www.gaaap.org/duringpregnancyhandout.pdf
